Shalom Religious School Parents!

Message from Rabbi Benjy Bar-Lev, Director of Education

Hello Religious School Parents,

DSCF1722Shalom! It may be cold and dreary outside, but it was warm and sunny inside this week at Talmud Torah Religious School. A quick reminder that we do have school next Sunday, November 23rd. We will not have school on the Sunday following Thanksgiving, November 30th.

Also, please note that Consecration is Friday night, December 5th during our First Friday service! If your child is older than Kindergarten age, but was not consecrated, please contact me and we will make sure he or she is included! rabbibenjy@tbsohio.org

Here are some of the Highlights from the morning:

AS ALWAYS, PLEASE SEE PICTURES at www.tbsohiokt.com

  • DSCF1676The Kindergarten families had an exciting morning preparing for Consecration! They sang songs, heard stories, and made Torah covers for their mini Torahs. See pictures of their Torah covers in the pictures section.

  • The first graders had a fun time making projects and learning about the biblical character of Rebecca.

  • The second graders were busy this morning making their very own Mezzuzot! Check out the great pictures of the class and their creations!

  • The third graders had a fun day of Jewish games!

  • Mitkadem classrooms were switched around this Sunday to make more room for our bigger Ramot!

  • The seventh graders made movies about the drama between Jacob and Esau. They were cinematic masterpieces! Videos will be uploaded soon!

  • DSCF1661The eighth graders and high school students started planning a “Green Fair” that they are organizing for Religious School families in February just before the holiday of Tu B’shevat. We are calling the program “Yarid Yarok,” the Green Fair.

  • 18 of our 5th and 6th Graders had an amazing time roller-blading, video-game-playing and laser tagging at Skate Zone 71. See the details below about the next program on December 13th!

Important Announcements:

  • DSCF1698There will be Religious School this Sunday, November 23rd.

  • There will be NO midweek Hebrew on Wednesday, November 26th.

  • There will be NO Religious School on Sunday, November 30th.

  • Consecration is Friday, December 5th at 6:15 p.m.

  • Please RETURN your child’s Tzedakah Box from the Columbus Jewish Federation Children’s Campaign THIS Sunday, November 23rd.

  • DSCF1629Please remember to send Tzedakah (charity) money with your child each Sunday. The classes are working this month to collect money for the Helping Hands Free Clinic in Columbus. Each month the Tzedakah money goes to a charity that is linked to our Jewish value of the month.

  • We are in the beginning stages of planning a one-night Religious School Family Retreat at Deer Creek State Park (about 20 mins outside of Columbus) to take place in April. We would like to have some ball-park estimate of how many people might participate in this kind of exciting program. The retreat would have family programming, separate programming for adults and kids, social programming, and lots of time to play games, swim, hike and do all kinds of fun activities. THERE WILL BE PROGRAMMING FOR PRE SCHOOL AGE CHILDRENC AS WELL! EVERYONE IS WELCOME! If you think your family may participate in the program, please click here and send me a brief (can be 2 words) email indicating that! rabbibenjy@tbsohio.org

  • DSCF1691On Sunday, December 7th, JuBeSTY, the 7th and 8th grade Youth Group will participate in the Latke Olympics! This program will begin after Religious School and will conclude by 3:00 p.m.

  • The next Club 56 program is an Undernight on Saturday, December 13th at Temple. We will eat dinner, do a scavenger hunt, watch a movie, have ice cream sundaes and much much more!

  • We are in the process of adding two new components to the TBSOhiokt.com website. First, we are going to be adding a Mitkadem helper page. This will be a password-protected page where you will be able to download a copy of the Ramah in which your child is working, so he or she can work during the week. We will also have audio recordings to download as well. We are also working to create a First Aliyah page that will have recordings of all the prayers for our Bar and Bat Mitzvah families to download. These pages will be up and running soon! We will do a special email with the password for these sites!
