Shalom Religious School Parents!

Message from Rabbi Benjy Bar-Lev, Director of Education

Dear Religious School Parents,

DSCF1188Wow! It was a busy week here at Temple Beth Shalom. It was a pleasure being with so many of you during all of our High Holy Day observances. The services geared toward families with school-age children, younger children, and high schools were all full of ruach (spirit) and were memorable experiences. What’s that you say, you want more fall holidays? Ok, here you go:

  • TODAY (Monday) October 13th, Beth Shalom Sukkot Celebration 7:00-8:30. This will take place at my (Rabbi Benjy) house. We will eat dessert, do a brief Sukkot service with Rabbis A and B, Gail and Nick and have time for everyone to shake the lulav in the sukkah. Please RSVP to the temple (rsvp@tbsohio.org or 855.4882). This will all be happening at my house which is in the subdivision behind Meijer in Gahanna:

    Rabbi Benjy's House
    6155 Brenthurst Drive
    Columbus, OH 43230
614.245.4220 (I dont use this home line often, but if you're lost, give it a shot)

  • DSCF1210Tuesday, October 14th, at 10:00 a.m. there will be a Festival Morning service in the Sukkah at Temple. This will be a great chance to dwell in the sukkah and study Sukkot!

  • Shabbat Chai Musical service featuring the Shabband
    • Friday, October 17th at 6:15. Light dinner to follow.

  • TOT SHABBAT!!!!
    • This Saturday, October 18th, at 10:30 a.m. join Rabbi Benjy, Mindy Agin and Leah Apothaker on guitar for a fun Tot Shabbat experience. Stories, singing and lots of fun. We'll be in the sukkah! Please RSVP to rsvp@tbsohio.org or 855.4882.

  • Simchat Torah Celebration
    • Wednesday, October 22 at 6:15 p.m.

Here are some of the Highlights from the morning:

DSCF1018As always, see PICTURES from this morning! www.tbsohiokt.com

  • Sukkot! The younger grades started making beautiful decorations for our Temple's sukkah and some of them are up already! Take a look in the sukkah to see your child's artwork today!

  • Mitkadem Hebrew is moving smoothly. Each day, students are passing into new Ramah levels. At the end of this month we will readjust rooms so that there is enough space for each student in each Ramah.

  • Firefighters! As you'll see in the pictures, we had visitors from the New Albany Fire Department. The firefighters showed our students all their equipment, let them go inside their fire trucks and taught a lot about fire safety. This month's Jewish value (middah) is pee-ku-ach neh-fesh, the importance of saving a life. We thought that firefighters are a great example of a job where lives are saved each day.

  • DSCF1193Human Sukkah! The 3rd-7th graders spent time in services today attempting to make human sukkot. Each grade, 3rd through 6th, had to make a human sukkah using every member of their classes. After the ridiculously fun competition, the 7th graders came around and judged each sukkah. As usual, it was a Sunday School tie!

  • Music classes were lively this morning as students learned some great new Israeli dances. They will be debuting one of them during Simchat Torah.
