Shalom Religious School Parents!
Message from Rabbi Benjy Bar-Lev, Director of Education
Dear Religious School Parents,
Shanah Tovah! Happy New Year! All of us here at Temple Beth Shalom wish each of you a new year of health, happiness and peace. Before we get to this morning’s highlights (and they were plentiful) I wanted to take a moment to remind you of all the exciting and meaningful High Holy Day services we have dedicated especially to our youth and their families:
Erev Rosh Hashanah (Monday night): The Twilight Service at 6:30 p.m. is a brief service with a story rather than a sermon.
Rosh Hashanah morning (Tuesday):
8:45 a.m. Family Service (serving families with children in 1st – 6th grade)
10:15 a.m. Family Service (serving families with children in Pre K – Kindergarten)
10:15 a.m. Youth / Teen Service (serving children in 7th grade – 12th grade)
We hope to see you at one of these terrific services!
Here are some of the Highlights from the morning:
PICTURES PICTURES PICTURES! Ok, if you haven’t been to our Talmud Torah Newsletter website, you’re way behind! Check out pictures (142 from this morning!) past newsletters and lots of great stuff. www.tbsohiokt.com Please make sure to share the pictures with your kids!
- Apples and Honey were everywhere! As we prepared to begin the High Holy Day season, each class celebrated in its own way. Some classes learned Rosh Hashanah songs (ask the Kindergarten kids about this) with Gail Rose.
The fourth graders made beautiful Rosh Hashanah art projects as well. Check out the picture section (www.tbsohiokt.com) to see them in action!
- Five students passed into the next Ramah during Hebrew this morning (after a little celebration time on our Nintendo Wii). We’re hoping for many more in the coming weeks.
- The Reading Room was full today of kids perfecting their reading skills. Some students worked with Mitkadem recordings while others worked with teachers and madrichim.
High School was great today. Tattoo Jews finished their unit on the controversial subject of Abortion through a Jewish lens. Modern Hebrew charged forward learning new and hilarious phrases to start the new year off right. Pray Ball finished talking about athlete apologies, wrote their own sins on golf balls and had a “tashlich” style class hitting those golf balls into the marsh behind the sanctuary. Jewish Meditation began learning the “Sh’ma” meditation and used incense to intensify the experience.
- The BeSTY board, Sarah and I were up early this morning for Freshman Kidnapping! It was a great event!
