Shalom Religious School Parents!
Message from Rabbi Benjy Bar-Lev, Director of Education
Shalom Religious School Parents!
Power was restored and we were back up and running this morning at Temple Beth Shalom! As always, there were tons of exciting activities happening throughout the building and even off site! Stop in some Sunday and share in the good times!

PICTURES PICTURES PICTURES! If you haven’t been to our newsletter website, YOU’RE MISSING OUT! We posted 128 pictures from this morning! On the newsletter website you can also contact any of us professional staff, read fine literary works (past newsletters), and add more email addresses to our subscription list! Don’t miss out on all the great stuff! Go to www.tbsohiokt.com right now! You’ll be glad you did!
Here are some of the Highlights from the morning:
As you can see in all the great pictures, the Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades went to Lynd’s Fruit Farm today to pick apples and get ready for Rosh Hashanah. Everyone had a great time on the trip and many delicious apples were picked. Thanks to whoever left a delicious one on my desk! Also thanks to Beth Walter for organizing the trip!
- The Mitkadem Hebrew program was great this morning! Students are getting back in the Hebrew groove, and new Hebrew students are quickly working their way through Ramah 1! Hebrew students were introduced to another incentive today. In addition to the other incentives for climbing through the Ramah levels, EACH STUDENT WHO COMPLETES A RAMAH TEST WILL BE REWARDED WITH SOME TIME ON OUR NINTENDO Wii (we call it Rabbi Wii). Students that tested today enjoyed some quality Wii time before getting back to work!
The Hebrew Reading Room was busy this morning with lots of students looking to improve their reading skills. Just after the High Holy Days we will have the Ramot and mp3s available on the Newsletter Website so students can work more easily from home.
- Everyone had a great time in music this morning! Cities in Israel and songs about them were this morning’s focus!
- Grades 3-10 had a spirited service this morning and learned about the importance of apologizing to the people we’ve hurt before apologizing to God as the High Holy Day season begins.
- The fifth grade had a great morning with teacher Dane Perelstein. They are charging through history and learning the real story of Judah, the Maccabees, and the rededication of the Temple!
The High School classes were terrific this morning! The Tattoo Jews class started learning about the controversial subject of Abortion and some different Jewish views on it. The Pray Ball class, in preparation for the High Holy Days, talked about athlete apologies and read transcripts from every athlete apology from Pete Rose to Michael Vick! Wait to see what they have planned for next week! Jewish Meditation delved into the spiritual world with some circle meditation. The modern Hebrew class started today learning some hilarious stuff!
- The 7th and 8th Grade Youth Group, JuBeSTY, had an AMAZING program this afternoon. After eating lunch at Cici’s Pizza Buffet, and wasting money on video games, we walked to the movies at Stoneridge, wasted more money on video games and saw the movie, “The Longshots.” There will be many more great programs like this one. If your child missed out this time make sure he or she comes to the next one!
