Shalom Religious School Parents!
Message from Rabbi Benjy Bar-Lev, Director of Education
Dear Kehillat Torah Families,
Shalom and welcome to the 2009-2010 (5770) school year! This is
our first official e-newsletter
of
the year,
and we're glad to have you as a reader. Throughout the course of the school year, these weekly emails will be the
most up-to-
date sources of information about all the events, activities and services we have at Beth Shalom for school-age
families. Each
newsletter features a class by class recap of the previous Sunday, pictures of our school in action, videos,
schedule
information and much more. Please take a few moments each week to read about all the exciting things happening in
our school
and our congregation.
Along with the newsletter, we have our Kehillat Torah Newsletter Website at www.tbsohioKT.com. On the website you'll find links to all our weekly pictures, archives of old newsletters and contact information. Check back often, as we are constantly adding new material.
It's hard to believe, but Religious School starts in just 5 DAYS, and we're starting the year with a slightly bigger school! We are very excited to have added 25 new students to Kehillat Torah over the summer. If you see one of our new families wandering around the building, please make an effort to introduce yourself.
Following this section of the email, will be a section detailing all the upcoming events. Also attached to this email and downloadable from the website are a number of important items that you should already have received a paper copy of. Included are teacher lists, calendars for Sundays and Wednesdays, information on our Opening Day Open House, and much more. See the links below.
Upcoming Events:
- Opening Day Open House! Come
and
see your
old
friends,
welcome new ones and meet some prospective families during our Open House on Sunday, September 13th at
9:00am.
There are parent activities all morning long, featuring an all-school / family bagel brunch sponsored by the Men's
Club. See
the attached flyer for details!
- Wednesday Hebrew! Join us
for
this great
drop-in program starting on Wednesday, September 16th from 4:00 to 6:00 where students have the
opportunity to
strengthen their Hebrew skills in small groups. Data from the last two years shows that students who attend two
days of Hebrew
move through the Mitkadem Ramot (levels) more than twice as fast as their one-day-a-week peers.
- High Holy Day Services! We
have a number
of services during the High Holy Days designed for younger congregants and their families. From our
intergenerational "Twilight
Service" on erev Rosh Hashanah, to elementary, high school and pre-school services, you'll be sure to find a
service
that fits
your family. More information in the Window and in next week's email newsletter.
- Rosh Hashanah! On
Sunday,
September 20th at 9:00 a.m. we are having Religious School on the second day of Rosh Hashanah, and it
will
feature
special Rosh Hashanah programming for all of our students. Parents are welcomed to observe the 2nd day of Rosh
Hashanah with a
"traditional service" in the Sanctuary, a creative service outside near the creek, or with our youngest students
at
our K-2
service first thing in the morning. Again, more details in next week's newsletter.
- Sunday School for Parents! We
are extremely
lucky to have Rabbi Debbie Lefton with us at Beth Shalom. On Sunday mornings, she will be teaching Sunday School
for Parents.
Each class will be self-contained, so parents can feel free to attend as many or as few as possible. Some of the
topics to be
covered are: Introduction to Judaism, Making a Jewish Home, Understanding the Prayerbook, Understanding Jewish
History, Adult
Hebrew and much much more. If you are interested in participating in the program, email Rabbi Debbie at: rabbidebbie@tbsohio.org

As you can see, we have a LOT of really wonderful things happening at Temple this year. We look forward to seeing you here! As always, if you have any questions or concerns about the school, please feel free to contact me via email at rabbibenjy@tbsohio.org, on facebook or at the office at 614.855.4882.
We look forward to seeing you on September 13th!
L’Shalom,
Rabbi Benjy
