Shalom Religious School Parents!
Message from Rabbi Benjy Bar-Lev, Director of Education
Shalom Religious School Families,
Welcome back! I hope you have all enjoyed your very loooooong Spring Break! We here at Beth Shalom are excited to be back in session this Sunday, April 19th! Please read the upcoming parent newsletters carefully – there is a LOT of great stuff coming up in these last five Religious School Sessions!
Upcoming Events :
This Sunday, K-2 Services on Sunday are 9:10 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
- 3-7 Services on Sunday are 10:35 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
- I will be out of the building this Sunday at my new niece’s baby naming in New York! I’m looking forward to seeing you NEXT Sunday!
- On Sunday, April 26th, our students Shira Katz and Isaac Wurmbrand will share their musical talent with us during the second service. Shira and Isaac were both participants in the Hackman Music Competition for Jewish students.
- On Friday, May 1st we will have a wonderful First Friday program featuring some singing by our 3rd Grade Class! The always-entertaining and under-an-hour service is at 6:15 followed by dinner at 7:15 p.m. If you have any Jewish friends who are unaffiliated and looking for a synagogue, PLEASE BRING THEM WITH YOU!
- Sunday, May 3rd, we will have a Religious School Open House during our regular school hours, where we will invite new families to see our school in action. You should have received an invitation in the mail. We have lots of interesting events happening that morning. Please find some time to stop by the Temple, eat a bagel and meet some new people!
- During the weekend of May 1st – 3rd we will have special early-bird pricing for Religious School next year. Sign up early and save money!
- On Sunday, May 10th at 10:35 a.m, our 4th Grade students will receive their siddurim (prayer books) in a ceremony during Religious School. Because Chag HaSiddur fell during Spring Break, we would like to give students who weren’t able to be there another chance to receive their siddurim. Students who already received their books are asked to bring them with them that day so that we can “ceremonially” insert a book plate in the front cover!
- Our Next Tot Shabbat is Saturday, May 16th at 4:00 p.m. This fun service and project is perfect for kids ages 2-6!
- On Sunday, May 17th we will have a all-school Maccabbiah (Color War) followed by a family picnic lunch! Details will follow in the coming weeks!
Here is a note from Music Director Gail Rose:
May 3rd Peter and Ellen Allard Concert for Young Children
Good News!! Our kindergarten through second grade students are invited to attend the Peter and Ellen Allard concert after Sunday school on May 3rd. The concert will start at 11:30 and will be held at Congregation Tifereth Israel, 1354 East Broad St.
Peter and Ellen Allard are award-winning Recording Artists, Performers, Musicians and Educators specializing in music for young children. Their songs are age-appropriate thus the child can relate to and thoroughly enjoy the music. The Allards use their repertoire to promote living a life that reflects Jewish values. Parents may pick up their children at 11:00 from Talmud Torah Sunday school and enjoy this concert with them. I will be teaching an Allard song during Sunday school in anticipation of this wonderful concert. This is not a Temple Beth Shalom sponsored field trip, so parents are responsible for taking their children to the concert. Thanks!
Attention 3rd Grade Talmud Torah Students
Friday, May 1st will be a very special Shabbat Service for all 3rd grade Talmud Torah students. Students will be called to the Bima to lead two songs that they have learned during Sunday school. The third graders will be presented with their Siddur (prayer book) to denote their preparation for Bnai Mitzvah studying. Students are to sit with their parents and arrive by 6:05 for the 6:15 service. I encourage you to make reservations for the dinner that immediately follows the service. The cost is $5.00 per person or $20.00 per family. Call the temple office, 855-4882, or e-mail, rsvp@tbsohio.org to make reservations. The dinner will be particularly fun thanks to music provided by Licking Heights Choir under the direction of our TBS member, Debbie Costa.
I am looking forward to sharing this very special evening with you and your family.

Have a great Shabbat!
