Shalom Religious School Parents!
Message from Rabbi Benjy Bar-Lev, Director of Education
Hello Religious School Families,
Hello! While I was not able to be in the building on Sunday, I heard it was a great morning at Kehillat Torah Religious School.
Please remember, we have NO SCHOOL on Sunday, March 28 and Sunday, April 4.
Highlights from This Morning:
The Kindergarten
Class through stories and art projects is beginning to learn about the story of Passover. They had a great time in class and particularly enjoyed music with Mrs. Rose on Sunday. They will continue studying about Passover next week! Remember to send a picture of your family with your child for the class time capsule!
The 1st Grade Classes started exploring Passover through learning about a Passover seder, and specifically what is on the seder plate. They heard a story about a Passover seder and will begin some Passover-themed art projects starting next week.
The 2nd Grade Class began their study of Passover this week. They began by discussing what Matzah is and how it is different than hametz. They ended the class by making beautiful matzah covers to use at their seders out of fabric and fabric markers. Exciting stuff!
The 3rd Grade Class in Hebrew, continued working on reading Passover related liturgy from the Haggadah. They worked on learning the four questions and reciting them. They also worked on reciting the ten plagues in Hebrew. In their Judaic Studies classes, they talked about the story of Passover and started preparations for reenacting the story of Passover that they will perform next week!
The 4th Grade class in Hebrew, did special worksheets today to help them learn the vowels more solidly. They played a Hebrew color game and worked on Hebrew reading skills as well. In their Judaica class, they began the study of Passover. The students made colorful matzah covers to be used at their seders out of fabric, yarn, and fabric markers!
The 5th Grade Class in Hebrew continued working on reading in small groups and worked on their mitkadem binders. In their Jewish History class, the 5th graders studied about the non Jews who risked everything to save the Jews during the time of the Holocaust. They also learned that doing nothing, standing idly by, is just as bad as being someone who commits a crime. They had a great discussion about this!
The 6th Grade Classes in Hebrew had a lot of fun. In Emily and Sam's class, they focused on vowel review activities and worked on reading and translating the prayer for peace, Shalom Rav. They are starting to build a nice Hebrew vocabulary. In Elle and Evan's class they used a coloring activity to review the vowels and worked on reading. Most of the class can chant the blessing before the Torah reading. Their reading is definitely improving!
The 7th Grade Class continued working through their curriculum on Jewish values and learned about the value of "Lashon Hara," the evil tongue. This value is about talking about people behind their backs and spreading gossip about one another. The 7th graders had a great discussion about how this happens and what can be done to control it.
The Chugim were a little disorganized in my absence this week. Not to worry, in this coming week we will be up and running again, with a great program that meets our high standards!
